How much is it worth?

I have just bought a 68 GT Coupe with a 289 rebuilt, bored over to 302, functional shaker scoop, new seats, new dash, new rugs, needs body work, frame rails OK.

Title says 125,000 mi.

How much would you pay? What do you think it's worth?

Dont know what its worth in the USA, But in OZ it would fetch 30-40,000 if restored...

For a coupe that needs bodywork? If I wanted to find the value of a vintage Mustang, I'd head to ebay and check the completed auctions. That's a very accurate indicator of what your car would be worth. I use it regularly, since when I started my shelby clone project I promised my wife I would never put more into my car than I could get out of it. Thankfully '67-'68 fastback prices have gone to ludicrous levels so I can spend whatever I want! Maybe if you posted a few pics you would get a more accurate estimate but in the end, why worry about it? You just bought the car, so it's worth what you paid for it, right? BTW, I don't think you could safely bore a 289 to 302 cubes. Ford got the extra cubes from a crank swap, a .030" over 289 is something like 292 cubic inches.

The 68 I did for my boss was all there except the engine compartment. The whole engine compartment looked like it had gone into a swamp. He told me he would get it cleaned up and the engine rebuilt and not to worry about it.

Words cannot describe how disgusting it was under the hood but the rest of the car was all there and ready to go. He got $12,500 for it as is.

Why can't I ever find someone like that when I try to sell something? I always do the old, "buy high-sell low" thing when it comes to cars. Several years ago I bought a nice '70 Ranchero for $1,000 that I put wheels and tires on, lowered a bit and put a $1200 stereo in, then sold a few months later for $1,000. Next was my '65 fastback that I bought for $3,200, put a new engine (rebuilt the original A-code 289), trans (top loader 4-speed) and rear end ('57 Ford 9 inch with a posi) as well as new front and rear springs and bushings and a set of nice vintage American 5 spokes and sold for a whopping $4500. I had over $8,000 in that car and it took me a year to sell it. I'm not even going to mention the amount of like-new motorcycles I've sold for half of what I had in them. So I may not be the right person to be giving out car value information.
