Well just to scratch the surface:

~2k = Tremec/5 speed installation (bellhousing, clutch and all that stuff)
~900 = Exhaust, from headers to tailpipe
~200 = Aluminum driveshaft
~350 = New Holley 650dp
~80 = scored a used Wieand Stealth intake
~300 = Various engine parts, such as new starter, alt., power steering and lines....pretty much every accessory and anything bolted to the front of the engine, electric fan included. This is probably more than 300 but something around there.

That totals to an estimated 4500 bucks, and that's only scratching the surface when you consider how much is spent on general maintenance, tires and rims that i've swapped out over the years, interior toys like gauges and audio stuff, money for my nose conversion, the list just goes on and on. I'd have to say i've spent at least around 1k over that easily. And the sick part is, i don't think i could sell my car for half of that. Oh well, that's why i'll never sell it

Make a list going through the car and then add it all up. Don't count mainence and repair, just the mods themselves. Last time I did this before the teardown I counted about $10,000 not including the $5,000 I paid for the car.

OT: I was in the magazine section looking at the new MMFF magazine and next to it was a Sport Compact Car Magaizine with a picture of a CRX, 240, and I think a Corolla or something with the title "Get 12's for only $3500" I browsed through it and I belive this included the price of the car as well, but not sure, I couln't go through it for long because the lack of interest and the fact I was in public and if had been spotted witha SCC mag in my hand it could have doomed my reputation. All I have to say is the BS flag is up there.

I did some calculating the other day, and with the total goal being 300-350 rwhp in my auto coupe it would cost me 9-10grand(this being stock heads/cam/shortblock)...I also priced a ls1 to get the same rwhp and it worked out to 11-12grand assuming I sold the stang to put $$ down on the ls1...so I can see some people spending some heafty $$ to build thier stangs

I could have paid cash for an 03/04 cobra and modded it

Latest is this C4 swap, 1500 in parts from summit, 480 to JPT, 645 to PI, and still another 350 to spend with summit. 418 swap cost about 13-14K. Plus what I spent to buy the car, the H/C/I combo on the 302, man I have a problem

Not including price of car...
40- K'n'N filter
200- mass air meter.
40- u/d pullies(used)
40- solid motor mounts(used)
50- electric fan(black magic-used)
100- AFPR and guage.
500- ceramic headers
130- intermediate pipe
300- cat back
200- shifter
20- shifter ball.
300- clutch, steel bearing retainer, adj. cable.
100- flywheel
30- speedo gears(1 for tranny 1 for cable)
160- fms alum driveshaft(the good old days)
160- 4.10 gears.
50- track lock rebuild kit
400- fancy disks and pads.
300- convo pro skinnies
20- turbines(used)
600- MT ET rubber all around.

so... 3740...

It add's up fast when you include everything you've got into it, not just the big stuff... I should imagine most folks would be suprised if they stop'd and went thru all the reciepts.

I bought the car with 13k miles on it back in '94, paid 11,500, and it was stock as a rock.

There's about $6300 in the 82, and several years ago I had spent over $17k on the 79, since I bought it in 1981.

Got about $1000 in the 89.

well, bought my 92 mustang gt for $3500, but it was worth only about 1,500 max. the seller ripped me off BIG TIME. hackjobs, leaks, parts falling off, no parts at all!!!!so far about $1000 has been put in just getting it ready to drive safely, (not done yet!!) and probably another $1000 or so to make it look better. its a nice car, just wasnt really worth the money
