red is the most expensive color to be bought lol but anyway, are you planning on door jams as well or not, because that makes a big differnce cuz there is allllllot less labor when just shooting the outside - i'd do it for you for 1500-1800 due to how much the materials cost - and how much prep work needs to be done (scratches, dents, old paint that's cracked or checked, you cant paint over these things lol) good luck with your paint ...

in my case paint was only $700.00. $500. paint and materials(plus wheel paint for pony's). starting last sept. took an auto body course at local vo tech school. brought car to school every thusday night sept thru march doing body work and disassembly(mouldings etc.)under supervision of instructor. at that point left car there til last week and the high school students finished final prep and paint. me and students then did reassembly.everthing came off, mouldings, luggage rack, bumpercovers. car looks great.$200. labor to school for students. all jambs done also.i'll have to post some pics.
as far as jambs i removed kick panel and weatherstrip at bottom of door then taped it up.i also had slight bubbling where rocker meets rear quarter.ground off rust, sandblasted and primed before paint.
if you have a votech school in your area look into it.learned a lot,had fun and great paint job. for a car that had only minor dings, scratches and no real rust i never realised how much work it was to do it right. a shop would have charged at least 3k considering how deep we got into it.
good luck

Like said before, it depends on how much work is perfomed. Just having it sprayed with good paint isn't that expensive, but the whole job from sitting as is to a finished job can be really expensive depending on how deep. A job where they just mask off and repaint, leaving all molding and pannels on there you could get away with for about $800-1000, but if you want to really do it like a show car, it could cost multiples of that.

I am going to paint mine probally within the next year. I am going to take it apart myself, probally down to the bare chassis, strip off the paint and such, straighten it out, tow it to a shop with the machine that holds the body and can angle it, can't remember the name, have it based and cleared, then tow it back and reassemble, then I'll do the wetsanding and buffing. It will probally cost me $600-800 just for the base and clear. BIG PROJECT.

Let me state that: You will get what you pay for. I threw down 2,000 on a paint job a few years ago on a different car. The outcome was very rewarding, but it wasn't perfect either. The shop sanded down the original color (Red over silver), smoothed and mended rust. Then they taped up what the could and sprayed away. The car came out looking brand new. But I had to do a lot of small paint removal from trim parts/ windows /etc. I also had to re paint the wheel wells flat back because of some small overspray. I used steel wool on the tail pipes to get off that overspray and I also spent about 4 hours cleaning all of the paint dust out of the interior and engine bay. Make sure that you get 3 different quotes for the job before deciding.

figure anything less than 2k, and your talking about a one-day, maaco, or earl shibe type of job.....garbage.

for a factory quality, everything disassembled, and shot, reassembled, and color sanded/buffed, cleaned up, ready to go type of factory job, 3k and up.

if you have freinds, they can likely help a bit...

we get 60 hours for a paint job, plus any body repair. plus R&i of parts(bout 15 hours)....our labor rate is 58/hr. (dont forget paint materials....bout 600-1000 depending on size of car)

other places are cheaper, and we are certainly not the only place to get a good job.... but you do indeed get what ya pay for! no matter who does it, make sure the car is blocked! nothing worse than a "choppy" paint job.
