got my new rack and pinion and power steering pump in, how much fluid should it take to fill the rack and pump? and how do i get the air out of the system? i tried just filling the pump then turning the wheel lock to lock but the level didnt go down at all. any suggestions on how to bleed the system?

Dont quite turn it lock to lock - you dont want to load the system (where it starts hissing and stuff).

It goes a little easier if the front wheels are in the air (no resistance). WIth it idling, cranking the wheel back and forth slowly should bleed the system. You have turned the car on so the pump can work, right?

As always, be careful while working on a car in this sort of dynamic.

Good luck.

yeah the car is still up in the air, i still havnt put the front tires on yet. so turn it back and fourth but not lock to lock? and about how long should it take to bleed the system? do i have to have any hoses disconnected?

Yep - dont quite go lock to lock. You never want to hit the locks with PS.

To bleed the system, I would guess that 4-5 times back and forth should about do it. If there's any air left after that, it will purge on its own. The system is really self purging - we just help it a little.

Good luck.

Yep - after your first drive, check the level. Mine had dropped a noticable amount after one drive (I didnt prime the system very much before driving - maybe once back and forth).

I'd have to find a manual to find the fluid capacity - maybe someone else knows off the top of their head.

Good luck and bump.

thanks, well i got it down on the ground and started it steering feels tighter but havnt taken it out of the garage yet. on a side note, is it going to matter if i replaced the front isolators and not the back ones? i'm going to replace them tomorrow but it wont hurt the car driving it tonight with the old ones in back will it?

Wont hurt a thing.
