My name is David. I just signed up for this forum and I figured if I get this car I will stay with this forum as it is a mustang of course.

So there is this 2005 Mustang Gt White with Red Stripes with only 73k miles on it going for 9995. It looks really nice (picture wise) and I was thinking about purchasing it so I did a carfax and found out it has a salvage title for a collision.

So I'm just wondering, how much should I take off for it being a salvage title?

And the car is a 2 1/2 hour drive so I can't just drive over there and look at it really quick.

Are you financing or paying cash? A lot of banks wont finance a salvage titled vehicle and a lot of insurance companies wont insure them.

I would tread very carefully. As noted, check with your insurance company to see if they'll even touch such a car.

Lipstick and mascara can mask a lot of bad stuff. It could be that the car suffered a pretty minor collision and an airbag went off -- often enough for an insurance company to scrap it -- or it could have been in a severe collision and had, say, the rear half from another wreck welded on. It doesn't take much to make a unit body car a mess and "never quite right."

If you really like the look of it make some time in your schedule to drive down and give it a thorough look-over. Try to get the car on a hoist so you can check for welds, evidence of frame pulling, wrinkles in the floors etc etc. If they don't want you to look under it walk away...

I'm leary of salvage titles for the above reasons. If it were me and it's just MHO, I'd pass on this car. I know my insurance company will not insure a salvages titled.

I say walk away, there are a lot of Mustangs out there to choose from.

Heres one, even though its about $2,000 more than the one you found but its an example of what is out there. Where are you located exactly?

Keep looking. Salvaged titles are a pain in the ass.

Not worth your time, you will have a really hard time trying to sell it if you ever need to. There are plenty of Mustangs in the field.
