well i need some patch panels welded in, was going to do it myself but started doing it and im butchering it so im thinking of cutting it out and having someone do it. how much would someone guess this would cost me? Heres what the rust looked like before i cut it out, very small area that needs replacing. I can weld thick stuff really good but cant get a hang of this sheet metal **** and i need to stop trying to fix my screw up because im just ****ing it up even more. Just need a rough estimate.

thanks

Ty

If you live in Central Pa, I'd do several places like that for a case of beer--if you did most of the prep.

Check around with car friends in you area-you can probably find someone who can weld it up for you cheap.

Otherwise, call around and find out what welding shops in your area charge per hour and when they can schedule it in. Next, cut out the rusted area, trim a patch to fit with maybe 1" overlap on the good metal, remove the paint around the area, attach the patch with self tapping screws, and then visit the welding shop. The more you have done, the less time they will have involved and the less you will pay.

i can weld just not sheetmetal, going to have my dads friends emplyoee check it out. I can do the sanding prep and all but I do not want to do any of the welding or cutting if possible, I tried replacing it and fubared it. Probably just gonna do new 1/4 skins. I have most of the tools so he can bring what he needs and I can supply the welder and materials and ****.

thanks for the help,

Ty

Ty, just cut out the offending metal. The new skins aren't as good as the original sheetmetal, even if they're off the original dies. The dies are worn out and the metal tends to be thinner than the original.
