how the heck do i set this backlash?

i read about it and grasped the idea with shims taking the left from the right etc. i was at work and was watching horsepower tv they happend to do a rearend on a 95, through me off when they did it. how do i do it?

its set to 80 right now, how do i set this thing up?

You want about 7-12 thousandths. Just get the mag base on with the indicator on a tooth as straight as you can. Move the ring gear back and forth you can feel the backlash or play. Move it back and 0 the gauge and then measure it. If you have too much, add shims to the drivers side from the passengers side to move the ring gear closer to the pinion. You want to stay about the same total thickness of shims overall to maintain the carrier bearing preload that was on it origionally.
