How to beat a PI Stang.

Obviously I can't see the tach, but your shifting seems fine. It doesn't sound like you're winding the engine to to point where it screams past its usefulness either.

Its really hard to work on improvements if you don't have hard baseline numbers to work with. Have you ever been to the track? A timeslip will tell you alot about your driving technique, and your car's weaknesses and strong points.

I walked many a PI GT when my car was stock, but that was because they couldn't drive. Personally, I think you should switch teams and come over to the darkside. Them PI Heads is REAAAALY GUD.

There are no local 1/4 tracks around NE Missouri, KC is about the closest, and its about 3 1/2 hours from me. Im going with some NPI ported heads with some PI cams for a nice little budget project. Some people say NPI flow better ported than PI but Im not siding with either as I have no evidence. I just got my heads for basically free, so im using what I got.

Dark side is the way to go!!!:nice:

I have outrun a few PI GTs w/ my nonPI GT. A lot of it will be driver. I know that I was a better driver than some of them. Car vs Car, I think you are outgunned w/ equal drivers. Your best bet is to tree him and not look back.

Its always about driver.

I pulled 8 lengths by 70 on a 04 PI gt that runs 14.3s at the track and I only ran 14.0s at the time.

From a roll we were even.

Im auto, hes 5 speed.

With just PI cams and PI intake you should be putting down enough power to take out a pi gt.

How do you figure? I can see beating a lesser driver, but with just PI cams/intake you're still short about 10-15hp of the PI engine numbers.

It is not that much of a difference, more like 5 RWHP if that. The stock NPI car( 97 Cougar ) with PI Cams and PI Intake car that Kris Danner tuned was within 5 RWHP of VicRattlehead's PI Engine swapped ThunderBird. PI Cams and PI Intake will for the most part make a NPI equal to it's PI Counterpart.

Was his car tuned very agressively, and the other one not tuned?

PI cars have a more aggressive tune from the factory.

The PI Engine swapped TBIrd was tuned by JW( Former SCT President - Well known as the premier Ford EEC IV and EEC V tuner ). KD who is friend of JW didn't tune it any more aggressive than any other car he would tune. The tunes would be comparable.

exactly, its not a big differance...

and I thought 96-98 cars were a bit lighter than 99-04

I know my car is lighter.

Yes i know they were tuned more aggressively, was just making sure that one wasn't tuned for more power than the other.:nice: Thanks though:D

my old pi swaped engine is now in my brothers 98 v6er and that engine is now making 266rwhp/308rwtq now w/ just self ported heads and o/r x-pipe. PI head swap is the way to go. :nice: do the whole swap you can get pi heads and intake sooo cheap these days. Also he just ran 8.7 in the 1/8 @81mph.
