I had some problems starting my car and my battery is new so I am going to try and clean the IAC. I have already removed it from the car and I am just wonder what is the best thing to use. Carb cleaner, brake cleaner etc. I have read different things here. Additionally, to you just spray the heck out of it or is there a method? Thanks.

Iac

You can try cleaning, but you'll probably end up replacing it.

I used car cleaner with no positive results. Bought a replacement 10 minutes later.

How to clean the IAC...

Step 1. Buy a new IAC

Step 2. Unbolt IAC (2 10mm bolts I think)

Step 3. Bolt on new IAC

Step 4. Throw away old IAC

There you all cleaned and good to go .

Seriously thought, these things have a certain "reading" that they are responsible for. Once they get out of spec and start going bad, they are useless and cleaning will do nothing for you.

Well that's pretty much what I figured and I was going to buy an IAC next week but I was hoping for a temporary fix. However, it turns out that it must have been too damn cold when I tried to start my car a week ago because I bolted the IAC up and tried jump starting her once again and she fired right up and idled perfectly. I was going to get a new IAC but I guess I have no need for one right now. Thanks anyway guys.

Bought a replacement for my 96 Cobra at NAPA for around $60; half of what the dealer wanted.

Ok, I spent almost $20 on a Haynes manual, and there is no picture of the F#!@$* IAC. There is a section that tells you the steps to take to remove it, but nothing that explains where it is other than it is near the throttle body. Can someone please post a picture of it!
