How to fill rear end with oil?????

i have 3 bottles of royal purple synthec gear oil and i have no clue whats so ever how to fill up the rearend. I already have the differential cover off but now just need to fill er up. Any clues?

I take it that the containers you have are regular ole quart containers like those that motor oil comes in? I use a 90W container (basically a squeeze bottle with a squirter nozzle on it) along with a length of clear tubing to squirt the oil into the diff. You can also just swap the nozzle off the 90W bottle and use the clear tubing. Works great and costs next to nothing.

ya they come in like a big squeeze bottle not a conventional oil bottle. I was thinking that i could get the tubing like you said and just bolt all of the lower bolts on the diff cover and just pry to top open enough so that i can get the nozle in.

Nooooo... there is a filler plug near the top of the diff. Mine takes a 3/8s inch rachet extension to remove. Pull the plug, fill it till it begins to overflow then replace the plug. Piece of cake.

Edit: The fill plug should be on the driver's side, forward end of the diff, just above the centerline.

or if yours will not come out like mine you could drill a small hole mushroom it with a punch and tap it for a plug, i figured hey if they can do it for super chargers in the oil pan why not do the rear end cover. oh i used a 5/8 tapered pipe tap and a 5/8 thread plug

And make sure you take the cover completely off before you do that. The magnetic drain plugs needed to remove the metal shavings are expensive.

Joe, have you had any issues with the lack of structural integrity on the pumpkin cover (leaks, etc)?
the covers tend to flex with no drain (why i think they dont have one, whereas girdles do).

Dirty, i forgot to add earlier to make sure that one uses friction modifier (check with the lube manufacturer to ensure you DONT need it, if that is thought to be the case).

yeah, somehow i figured that was a given since it is so easy to take off . i actually had mine on with the RTV hard and was like oh crap it wont open up, so i had that bright idea, best part is if you have a spare parts drawer its free

ya 50resto sent me the friction modifier with the 5-lug swap so i got that covered.

IS the fill plug on the other side fo the differntial, not the cover?

no leaks yet just to be safe i put a lil RTV around the plug. the only reason i did it is i am planing on getting a girdle when i install the 3.73's that are chillin on my bench but i need it working in the mean time. it works pretty good plenty of room to put the bottle in the hole turn it stright up and squeeze, no tubeing


as for the plug if you look at it from the front towards the rearit is on e right side on top of a flat area about half way up on the pig, it is a square plug hit it with a lot of WD 40 mine was being a pain in the ass so i did the homemade fill plug

yep. it is on the driver side of the pumpkin, but on the front side (where the DS mates up). find the DS flange, look toward the driver side and up. the plug is kinda hidden. i would be sure to remove the plug before draining the pumpkin - otherwise if you drain it and cant get the filler plug out, you will be doing as you proposed in post #3.
