When I pulled my cluster, I think there are 6, or maybe 7, bulbs labeled "ILL". Those are the ones I replaced. I chose not to replace the ones for the turn signals, bright headlights, and other indicator lights.
I like the way it turned out. It's not too much brighter, but a little sharper. I guess you could say the needles are brighter, to me they changed color a little. I think its because they are somewhat clear so they kind of take on the color of the bulbs you use.
My dimmer still works, so I can control how bright it is over all. I don't know about how many bulbs are in the AC controls, I haven't considered changing those.
