How to make my stang beat 2005 gt ?

1) My 2005 Mustang GT at full weight with a full tank of gas is LIGHTER than my friend's 04 Mach 1 at full weight and a full tank of gas. Neither car had a driver or passenger. Same scale same day...

2) Having seen my friend's Mach 1's dyno and comparing it to mine, the 3V has more power and TQ than the 4V does till 4000 RPM. Coming off the line the 05 Mustang GT has the advantage over a Mach 1.

1) actually that is a good point, i forgot the Mach 1 weighs a bit more than the S-197.
2) I still see the mach 1 as a bigger threat - it has more long term capability with those heads, and therefore i am perhaps more cautious when approaching one than a 05+ GT

This is a signature of a member here at Stangnet that goes to the same track I do who has an 03 Mach 1... Actually I heard he got rid of it but haven't been able to confirm it.

I went 13.68 @ 101 MPH with these mods on my 05 Mustang GT:

SLP LM Axleback
MT ET Street Drag Radial

I never got to run that Mach 1, I didn't see him at the track after I ran that 13.68 in 2006, pity though, I would have liked to have added him to my Mach 1 Kill list.

I am also going to point out, a stock Mach 1 doesn't really have a power advantage until 5800 RPM over a stock 3V and it is not that big. Adding a tune and increase the redline of the 3V 4.6, there is no power advantage of the Mach 1 4.6 4V. The 3V continues to make power until 6500 RPM, just like the mach and it is within 5 HP.

yea a lot of people make the mistake of thinking a mach 1 weighs what the 99-04 GTs weigh but they do not. they are actually in the 3400 ball park right there with a 05+. look at power numbers too the 3v is putting down about the same amount of power as stock machs all in the 270 range stock. the 3v responds very well to mods as well

mach makes 305hp at 6000 and 320tq at 4250 05+gt makes 300 at 6000 and 315tq at 4500 its slightly better in the mach but i have actually heard to that the 05+ GTs were actually underrated from the factory.

its close the 3v also has a better computer in it to that responds faster. with the electronic throttle if you nail on the gas it actually opens the throttle body just fast enough for the engine to handle the incoming air. its just far more advanced than the machs

so he has gears and exhaust while you have some exhaust and Mickey Thompson's? Seems like a pretty good match if he went 13.5, and he went 13.7 w/out the gears and still hit the time (pretty much) that you did using MT's

What about his flash tuner and CAI???

Read it again, he had Nitto Drag Radials. Yeah the Mickey's are better than those but he had them to...

My 13.68 was my best pass of 2006. My best from 2007 is faster and lower than that. My best with my 05 GT is faster than that Mach 1. 2008, I have a really good feeling I will be in the 12's right out of the gate.

seems like we both have the same aspirations And i'm just a 2v

The guys at the dealership I bought mine did a dyno on mine.......320rwhp.....stock.

come out here & try to add me to your Mach 1 kill list.... So u went 13.68 with exhaust & drag radials....Ive only ran at the track once in my life & my car went 13.78 @ 103, with a horrible 2.2 60ft... & That was on close to bald street tires, with the only mods being a catted h, catback, & c&l maf... Plus like you say, my car is heavier, especially with 18x10" wheels & a bunch of road race suspension that doesnt even help @ the track??? U tell me how your car is so much faster than mine???

Check the Mach1registry 1/4 mile list...There is a mach with nothing but drag radials that ran 12.9@106, & alot that have ran similar times with DR's & exhaust only???

I appologize if maybe my initial comment was misworded, I probably should of said "you will stand a great chance if u buy a Mach 1"... I actually respect the S197's alot, they make great power, but they arent hands down faster than 03-04 Mach's....

I plan on hitting the track alot more down the road when i get some drag radials & a better tune, but Im very confident that with my current mods I can run low 13's, high 12's....

Here's an excerpt of the list of the best N/A Mach's in the country along with the mods that they have.... I got all this from the Mach1registry.com

i love how everyone is in a heated debate about this when in all reality they are both equal stock for stock. yes mach 1 owners will say they are faster 05+ owners will say they are faster. but magazines that did tests with both of them say otherwise and they both clicked off the exact same times. the mach has 5hp and 5 tq advantage with slightly more weight not enough to really make much of a difference

the 05+gt has a better computer that responds faster and the motor runs more effecient than a mach. both cars are equal guys lets stop this arguement. I have seen with my own eyes cause i was driving a bolt on mach 1 with drag radials run a 9.2 i was in the other lane with my GT and kicked his butt with street tires lol. its drivers guys. we are not professionals we are not very consistent.

both of these cars are just about identical in performance. yes the 4v will end up with higher hp figures eventually just because the heads flow more air. but this debate is stock for stock.

also in an episode of forza motosports show down a girl ran the 05GT mustang with nothing other than slicks and she ran a 12.8 i think it was. even the guy driving the c6 vette didnt break into 12s lol

The 05+ stangs respond very well to mods. You can gain 40-50hp just from a tune, CAI and exhaust. If you add 4.10s, aluminum driveshaft and steeda UDPs you have one heck of an N/A car that can easily run in the mid 12s.

my dad has an 03 mach 1 bone stock, i have driven an 05 bone stock gt and ridden in an 06 bone stock gt, neither were as fast as the mach period. sorry but thats my opinion based upon my experience with them, i have only been beat by one 05+ gt and thats b/c i messed up on the launch and blew the tires off, i got him on the next run from a dig, and again from a roll in my 99 with nothing but exhaust/cai. the 05+ gt's need a tune to get them moving period. factory tune on them is junk.

Here is the thing, the track I go to is 1700 - 1800 feet above sea level, will always have at least 60% humidity, and does no track prep. I haven't ran the car on a prepped track yet.

You just can not go and compare how a car ran in Texas to a car that ran in Colorado for example. That is nice that a Mach 1 went 12.9, it probably did it in December, likely Houston because that is a well-prepped track. Now bring that 12.9 Mach up here and see how it does.

I am not saying that the S-197's are faster than the 03 - 04 Mach 1. I have many times stated it is a driver's race between them. I do believe the S-197 has the advantage out of the hole and because of that will likely win more than lose.

Here is the thing, I have driven my friend's 04 Mach 1, in fact to it's best time to date in the 1/4. It does *feel* faster than the S197 Mustang but running them at the track side by side, I won. If you take the best time I have with his car and compare it to what I ran against him, his car still loses...

I traded my 02GT in for an 05GT back in 2005. You are right. Even in the 02 GT, the last gen "feels" way faster than the current one.

Also to all those griping about the wieght of the 05. Remember the 05 has a way better weight distribution than the last gen. Its a far more balanced car.

Even in my 02 GT, it was pretty easy to turn the back tires to smoke, where as the 05 hooks up much better, even with slightly less rubber on it (235 vs 245).
