you take them off from the inside, but why take them off ? Are you painting them the same color as the car?

Unscrew the inside plastic piece. There should be 2 or 3 bolts holding it on. Unbolt it, pull the wiring up and unhook it.

you MAY need to pop off the door panel, i had to. take out the 1 screw that hold the triangle trim piece (if power) then the two nuts that are staring you in the face.

You can also paint all the way inside of the side mirrors if you take the mirrors off,i did it. Although you need a long skinny screwdriver and its a bit of a pain sorta.

Definately better to take them off for painting. Above help is good. May need to pull the door panel to help with the electric plug.

I went one step farther this week when I repainted mine. I put cut the remote wires and wired in a 3 wire trailer plug. I did this so I will not have to take off the door panel when repainting the mirrors. Painted mirrors last so much better in the sun than the original black plastic. I used automotive universal flat black and then follow up with clear coat to give them extra protection and a shine. I wait a few weeks and then wax them like the rest of the car.
