This is the trunk lid hinge for a 1992 convertible.

I want to separate the SPRING from the hinge and be able to reinstall it later after the hinge has been painted.

Any suggestions ???

Very sound advice... Will adhere...

I may look into replacing stock hinges with struts.

Not seen it done on a Fox yet... but my wifes 2001 convertible seems to have similar travel
<just a thought>

Thanks again

i think u could get it a part but getting it back together would be hard. i would check with a body shop and see if they have a tool to do that with.

this!

once you get it off that silver post its going to uncoil from the center. option b is to have 2 people do it. once to hold the bracket and one to hold the spring then count how many times you have to go around uncoiling it before all the tension is off. then paint and coil it up the number of times you had to uncoil it.

i like the mask off and paint option
