A buddy at work has a 2000 ranger with the 4.0. After it warms up it idols like it has a huge cam, any ideas? He took it to a shop and they gave him a whole page of codes! peace

Mine was acting a little like that, but I was lean at idle.

Sounds like maybe an idle air control issue.

EGR also comes to mind, but I doubt that.

Those OHV motors were not the greatest.

Let us know how it works out.

Sounds like it might be a vac leak also.

I'll second that vac leak.

I had this happen on my 05 when I tried to install an aftermarket throttle body spacer. There was a gap in the back that I hadn't caught - sounded cool, but I could also hear the air leak.

I notice that sometimes my idle is all jacked up and flucuates pretty badly. Then I realize that I have my stereo cranked up and my subwoofer is hittin like a mofo. My idle RPM's only drop when I hit some extreme bass or kick drum hits. Completely unrelated though

I would say vac leak also. something is geting warm and loosening up enough to start leaking

VAC leak as well is what i was thinking? Went to lunch with him yesturday and i could hear a slght ssssssssssssssssss ? peace

was it a leak? did you find it? I have a friend with what seems to be the same problem. I haven't heard his explorer yet to listen for a leak.

Not yet i wont chat with him till monday he has today off. But if you do letmeknow if i dont speak with him over the weekend! peace

Tap the EGR with a hammer while idling to make sure it's closed.

I've also heard that if you take it off you can blow threw the vac hose to see if it works? peace
