I can not get these stupid headrests off!!!

I don't remember how the stock head rest attaches, but from the '88 shop manual:

"If the mounting bracket spring clip will not disengage from the release on the head restraint post, insert a 12" length of thin flat stock into the sleeve at the front of the post. Push the spring clip out of the detent while withdrawing the head restraint."

Hope that helps.

The clip rests in a horizontal slot on the aluminum 'post'. A long screw driver slid up from the bottom (once the cover is unzipped at the bottom) will do the same thing as inserting a flat piece of metal from the top (and is easier to find!). Then just pull hard. Second one will be a snap after you figure out the first one.

You've gotta reach up under the back of the seat cover from the bottom and slip a screwdriver in with the metal bar that comes down from the headrest, which holds the retaining tab back while you slip the headrest upwards. Sorry I can't describe it better, but once you get the release depressed, the headreat will slide out from its retainer.

from what I can see, there is a plastic tab or something behind the headrest post. I can pretty much see the clip, but just cant get anything in there to release...this is really frustrating! lol thanks for the tips, hopefully I can get these toaster ovens off!

You can't see the clip from up top, you're looking at a plastic spacer piece it sounds like. The only way I've ever done it is from the bottom.

A long flathead screwdriver will do the trick, as mentioned above. There is a horizontal cutout that goes sideways in a flat post on the bottom of the headrest. A metal band snaps into this cutout. What you need to do is lift the band away from the headrest and slip it up past that. It only needs to come up a little bit. Once it's past that, it will just slide right out. :nice:
