Sounds like you "nailed it" - time for a new switch.

The entire wiring harness is shot. And the starter motor, and that truck engine 390. Just stuff it in a big box and send it to me, and I'll slowly fix it over the span of a few decades......

Ok, the truth - Ign Switch just had the plastic in the back, inside the switch, break. Replace it.

I have rewired too many cars, including my old 69 Mach.

If you are still leery, I have a 1974 Hurst Olds we can trade. Or a 1998 ZX2 (Deanna won't mind, she's at college )

I had my '66 Coupe do this. With it still running & the keys in my hand, I took my pocket knife and tapped the top of the starter solenoid and it quit instantly. I replaced the solenoid that afternoon and it never occured again. Pretty silly..........
