Physically, the engine should drop right in exactly the same as the 4.6 it'd be replacing. I don't know if you'll have any clearance issues between the driver's side valve cover and the master cylinder/hydroboost though. You may need to run a K-member spacer, so you can lower the engine down in the bay a little more and you still may end up needing a cowl hood. I'm also not sure about performance oriented intakes for the 5.4 DOHC either. At least with the 2V, you can buy the intake adapters from Reichard, but I don't know of any such adapters for the 4V. Check with birdman941 about what all it entails, since he did the swap and used a 5.4 Aussie intake (link to the thread).

The nice thing about that 5.4L is that besides the potential for added horsepower, you'll pick up a bunch of torque in the lower and mid range regions where the early '96-'98 Cobra's desperately needs it. Contact Al Papito at BOSS 330 Racing 772.299.0775 about an intake and the needed odds and ends for the Navi engine. He's said to be a real Wizard with the 4V 5.4L engine and has made some really stout N/A numbers with these cars. Stout to the tune on low/mid-400rwhp and torque levels with completely streetable daily driver packages.
He had a beautiful Black Cobra featured in MM&FF a year or two ago that would have made a Corvette blush.
I recall Al's name coming up on quite a few occasions during Birdman's build, so it does sound like he's the authority here. If you do it, we need a build thread with pics.
