Hi Stangers,

I need some help trouble shooting my fuel gauge, and temp. gauge. The fuel gauge will jump up to about 1/8 tank and then fall back to empty when I turn the key on. I have checked the ohms from the sender and it was reading 73 ohms. The voltage supplied to the sender was 7.5VDC. When I ground the fuel gauge sender wire, the gauge does not move to full as exspected.

The temperature gauge problem my be related. I have seen the guage move a full 30 DEGF in a second. You can watch the movement nd it seems not to be as steady as it should. I know darn well that the engine temp couldn't swing that fast. My '91 LX is rock steady. So... Do the Fox body cars use a constant vaoltage regulator for the instruments? It would seem that if this was true. a malfuntioning one might be the culprit. I can't explain why the fuel guage moves at first. Also, when I first got the car, the fuel gauge would read 1/4 when full. Over the past 20k miles it worked less and less. I have already changed the sender.

Any other ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,
RT

Do a search, there is an anti slosh module that keeps the gauge reading steady. It may be the source of your problems.

On the Temp gauge, I just changed the sender on mine because it wandered up and down about 20*. It did it over the course of about 30 seconds. The sender removed from my old intake manifold fixed the problem.
