I am trying to install my new tri-ax shifter and cant even get the lower boot plate off. I can get the two bolts closest to the the rear but can even get to the two bolts towards the ffront of the car, they are underneath the center consol. I know you dont have to take the entire center consol out. Can someone help me out. Thanks
:shrugs:

A shifter install is easy...

Just get a 1/4 in. drive ratchet and wiggle it in there...you would be surprised what the right combination of swivels and extensions can do...better yet even without them...

Just be patient and use what you got...Good Luck...you will like the shifter...

or you can remove w/ a wrench .....
little by little by little....
anyway...when it's out (thats the HARDEST part of the install actually)
don't bother putting them back in.
i always just put the rear 2 back in...

thanks all for the suggestion, but leaving the rear two bolts out wont hurt anything?
It will be so much easier if I am able to leave the bolts out. I have tried notching the consol so I can reach them a little easier, but anyways, will leaving the two bolts out hurt anything?
Thanks

You are talking about the rubber boot right? Not the top of the shifter plate that bolts up to the transmission (you want all 4 bolts in on that )...

the rubber boot is just there to catch dust and cut down on noise travel thru the shifter...I have mine where it slides over (I can't remember if it needed trimming or not)...and is held in place by two bolts...in fact the two bolts wouldn't even need to be there because it is wrapped snuggly around the base of the shifter...
