I ordered a set of 4ohm subs and received the 8ohm model, does it matter?

Title says it all. I ordered two kicker comp 05C104s and after being jerked around by the vendor I received two 05C108s three weeks later. I've been trying to contact the vendor but they have not responded.

I plan to run them bridged at 2ohm. Does it matter that they are rated 8ohm instead of 4?

Thanks

It does matter, because when you try and run them bridged, the amp will see 4ohms instead of 2ohms. If you do end up running 4 ohm woofers in parallel (i.e. at 2 ohms), make sure that your amp can handle that bridged, because not all amplifiers are rated to do that, sometimes they are only able to run at 4 ohms when bridged.

...and there goes what little space I will have left in my trunk

I guess I'll keep bugging the company. Had to pay through Paypal but they won't do anything because the company did ship the subs.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Your power output will be cut in half, but this may not matter. A doubling in power is equal to a 3dB increase. Now, many 8 ohm drivers are more "efficient" or sensitive than their 4 ohm counterparts. Compare the two, if you find the 8 ohm versons to have a sensitivity double or close to that or the 4 ohm drivers, then they should provide the same output with half the signal, in effect having the same output potential with half the power. This is actually a plus as you will draw less current, run cooler, and more efficiently.

Hmm... Thanks Kwik 9550!

I may just stick with the speakers then. My amp is a Jensen JPA1300M and it claims to put out 400W at 2ohm and 300W at 4ohm so it looks like its only a 25% loss to run at 4ohm.

Sensitivity:
4 Ohm: 86.8
8 Ohm: 87

.2 doesn't seem like much but I'm not familiar with most of this.

I don't expect that I will ever get a response from the company so if the result will be the same I will stick with the 8ohm speakers.

Not the best. You can find better for the money, but that doesn't matter. If you're happy with it, that's what counts.

I'm liking your optimism

I haven't hooked it up yet so I don't know how well it works but I'm sure after getting bass from a 4 or 5-inch woofer in my backseat for the last 8 months anything will impress me.

Still have to build a box - waiting to get a sheet of MDF.

if they shipped the item to you, you could possibly get them for mail fraud - especially if they won't contact you. It would be alot of hassle though, so if you like the 8ohm subs, maybe just deal w/ it. That's one of the bad things about finding good deals online - you might not get the service you would like.
