I replaced my lights

I replaced my dome lights with blue led's.
The pictures aren't the best, it definitely looks much cooler in person.
I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but thought I'd share anyhow.

I'd be worried about not being able to see well enough to find something. The other thing I would worry about is the lights not turning all the way off. I've heard LEDs, if not properly loaded, will stay on slightly.

agree w/darkfire - it is well documented on another site with someone who installed the same lights and ended up with a dead battery. I would keep an eye on your lights to make sure they are shutting off COMPLETELY; LEDs are capable of draining your battery

OK, I am not saying that I can't be wrong, but something isn't making sense to me. What in the world does the type of bulb have to do with the light turning all the way off. A switch in the door cuts the power going to the light when the door is closed, or at least it tells a relay to cut the power or whatever. The bulb itself has no say in wether it is going to turn off completely or partially, it only acts based on the presence of power or the lack of it. A bulb can't drain a battery if it is not connected to the battery, and when the switch is open, the bulb is not connected.....right?

Actually, the SJB expects to see certain loads on certain circuits. If it doesn't see those loads, then it does crazy things. A lot of people that have installed LEDs in the rear have also had problems. You have to install special relays for them to work properly, and they don't work with the WebElectric sequentials for this very reason. I'd post a link to a large thread about it, but it's on a competing board.

At the time the oem would fade out, the led's have a light glow.
I haven't sat there to see exactly when they go out, but they do eventually go out.
Within 10-15 minutes.
I'm going to keep monitoring this to see if I can narrow down the timeframe.
But at this time I am not worried.

Ahhh yes... that's what it is... For some reason, the person that designed the SJB decided it didn't need to fully cut power to the lights, only enough so they don't light up. But the load thing still applies to the taillights. I thought that was the reasoning for the overhead lights, too.

From an engineering stance, this is true.

As for the competing site, Dark, can you copy/paste the content on here? You are welcome to use the original poster's member name in the quotation to give credit where credit is due.

Ok.. Here's a few quotes from TMSers. These are all in a post about LED dome lighting.

UPDATE AND A WARNING:

I took my car out last night (didn't get home until 3:45am) so I had a chance to see my new LED dome lights in action.

1) THEY DO NOT TURN OFF. After they dim down, the LED lights are very clearly still burning, albeit extremely dimly. After shutting the car down I just stayed inside to see if they would turn off, and THEY DO NOT. The LEDs stay lit whether the car is running or not. I assume that the SJB will power them down at some point but I wonder if the current draw would be enough to kill my battery over time.

2) I'M NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE LIGHT. The white LEDs look cool, but in my opinion they do not put out more light than the stock incandescent bulbs. If anything, I feel they put out LESS light. Maybe it's just because the light is bluish white and just isn't as visible, I don't know.

That being said, I'm pulling the LEDs today after work. I can't have lights constantly burning over a long period of time. Falchion, you may want to check yours at night!

So the ambient lighting package would be illegal in VA?

I noticed the LEDs remained "ON" as well, so I put an ammeter in between the leads and recorded a few microamps of current draw. I'm not sure why this happens because my other car (the 00 Vic) has a lighting control module (similar to a SJB) that totally cuts off the power to the floorwell lights, so the LEDs are OFF.

I think this is a problem with the SJB and not the LEDs.

I just did the LED swap as well and noticed the LEDs remained "ON".

I should have done this earlier, but I checked the voltage with the trunk light "OFF" and the SJB is still supplying 9.75V

The GT can't use LEDs unless the LEDs are designed to shut off below 10 VDC. Otherwise, they will burn dimly at 9.75 VDC

Yes, I have the anti-theft. And it looks like you were right after all about the LED's being light after the car is turned off.

This morning, I turned the engine off and just sat i the car untill the light went off, and the LED dome light were still dimly light! Errr!

I've been driving it that way for the last several days, so I don't think the battery will be drained down when I get off work, but I'm concerned about this!

Looks like I'll have to put the regular dome lights back in. What a waste of $30!

and it goes on and on...

Sweet deal! It would go great with my car but I'll like to sick with functionality. I'd go for something hyperwhite that's really bright to make up for the bad light placement in the car which doesn't light up the interior well.

L.E.D. current draw is so minimal, its measure in mA.I have instlled L.E.D.'s in MANY cars without any problems, so a dead bettery must be a problem with the Mustang

A few people have had problems with dead batteries. My problem with it would be lights being on in my car. That's an invitation to thieves if you ask me.
