Ok well it all started with a thread I saw in CD where someone had purchased some potassium nitrate to make smok bombs. I had always heard about this and wanted to do it so I went online and ordered some and also ordered 65 ft. of fuse. Well, I went to his house this morning and we started cooking. We got a small metal bowl to melt it in. (first mistake)
Then we mixed (roughly) 6 parts potassium nitrate and 4 parts sugar. We put it on his propan stove and let it sit at the lowest heat possible. It was bronw and stunk but the first batch came out fine. I scooped it out and made a turn and suck a fuse in it then stuck it in the freezer to harden. We lit it and it went off without a hitch.
Well then we decided to make another one. Only this time I put twice as much of both ingredients. I mixed it all in the same bowl and put it over the lowest heat possible. We told his younger brother to call us when it started smoking a little (the first batch smoked like you were cooking something) and we would go stir it. He called us, we went stir it and went back to halo. then we hear this. "COREY ITS BURNING!!"
O ****. We got up and ran in the kitchen and there was a metal bowl on the stove with molten sugar flying out of it and the house was almost instantly filled with smoke. As soon as I saw this my friend GRABBED THE BOWL OFF THE STOVE. With molten sugar pouring out of it and then he dropped it and his sock caught on fire and so did the rug right in front of the door (just a small part). Then the smoke detector went off and we were fighting a blaze on the floor. It looked like it had been sprayed with napalm. Well we finally got it under control and assesed the situation.

In all of these pics the black parts burn straight through the plastic floor.
Well his mom called and we told her what happened and we knew she wouldnt be that mad cause they are changing that floor soon anyway. We went to Wal-Mart and got a rug to cover it up and it looks good as new. My friends hands, legs and shoes are another story. And so are my feet and legs. But he got the worst end.
We then wrapped a mortar shell in electrical tape and blew it up in the back yard which is about 8 feet wide and as soon as it went off the neighbors came outside yelling to see if we were alright. they though it was a wreck or a breaker box exploding.
So the moral of the story is dont mix 6 parts potassium nitrate with 4 parts sugar and heat over a low flame untill you get a peanut butter like mixture and leave it unattended.
