What did you start out with? A CAI, or just an open airbox? Glad it worked, but I'm still not convinced you did anything more than create a glorified Cold Air Intake.

I would find a way to lose the air silencer, then increase the size of the end of the pipe that is catching the air.

I just made a new and more direct pipe last night, so hopefully I'll see an even bigger gain. Yes, I know the duct tape is ghetto and looks like crap, but I overlapped and laid down a good seal. It gets the job done well. The top intake silencer is hard to see, but in the top left of the pic.

It's impossible to see.

A view of the 'intake silence' from behind. It's flipped around so that the part that WOULD be in the airbox is the side that is actually catching the air.

That's a pretty cool deal... might look into doing one on my own, though I don't have the stock snorkle anymore.

Thanks guys, I'm surprised it worked myself. I'm taking out that curly pipe on sunday to put a straighter one in..less restriction. I can't compare it to true aftermark ram-air kits out there but I can stomp the gas at 50mph in 2nd/3rd gear and my car will pull..and pull HARD. I guess I'll be cleaning my K&N alot more often now though.

ive seen a lot of these kind of homemade "ram air" kits. some claim they work and others say its pointless. im not sure how much true ram air your actually getting with this kind of kit but if it works then great. that flexible tubing seems to be the most popular to use, i saw some guy on cardomain who had a 99/01 cobra bumper on his gt and made a similar ram air kit but used the 2nd fog light holes on both sides to stick the tubing then connected the 2 tubes at a y and then to the filter.

Well i'd tend to think that 2nd air tube is hindering the 1st because if he doesn't have the angles JUST right, then the two air masses are just smacking into each other and kinda floating on up the rest of the intake. But, you never know..if it worked, kudos.

regardless of how effective the 'ram' part of mine is, the intake is still coming from outside the car so at least i have a $8.54 'CAI'. Still, the 50mph pull is nice. Some Escalade Delani tried to fly by me on the way back from work tonight. I dropped 2nd at 45 and just watched him dissapear in the rear view. I think it's doing its job well.

yeah, I don't care what the nay-sayers say, I have done homemade ram air on many differen't cars and I always get a decen't improvement.

Well for a crappy motor, I saw one hell of an improvement. My physics of slapping rubber and metal together with duct tape in 30min. for $8 actually did something. So in my case, it was a ****ing miracle, and I'm not complaining. I make a post about how to make use of useless peices of rubber and 10 bucks just to get flamed? Jesus, no wonder these forums are really starting to suck. High five to the people that like to experiment..oh yeah, that's me.

whatever, why don't you get out of the textbook and try something a little different. technical knowledge helps but unless you actually experiment or try/do something yourself how do you really know?

I'm not saying it didn't work.
But have you ever heard a ricer say, "My car feels A LOT faster now that I got that new muffler"? So even if you do experiment you're not gonna know if it did anything unless you have some solid numbers to go by. Driving a car before and after isn't usually enough. Your mind can play tricks on you. My car runs crappy on some days, and is quick on others. But I'm not gonna say, "Wow, my blue shirt really helped."

No. This forum sucks because our entire Tech section is about exhaust, Check Engine Lights, and Home-made Ram Air setups.

Isn't my fault that it actually works. And by the way, shaving a solid second off of my 0-60 and pinning my speedo for the first time..I'd say that's enough concrete evidence for me.

Then what the **** is the tech supposed to be about? I haven't seen a post about induction other than s/c, TT in forever? Why the hell flame me? Yea everyone here bitches about beating a dead horse, so why bitch about it even more? No one obviously cares and will continue to post whatever the hell they want. Ever think of not posting in threads that don't interest you? Maybe even leave if it's that bad?

I've used the search tool before, and sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't because theres a billion threads and I don't like to spend my time looking through hundreds of replys in HOPES of finding a simple answer that I need.

And yeah, this didn't make my car sound/look any different at all. Besides, it's not even a matter of looks or sound...it's a matter of avoiding paying $50-200 for a goddamn "intake". It sure is a shame I found another way to alter my engine and save money. Absolutely rediculous.

Next time someone puts on a supercharger, I sure won't believe them without numbers either..
