please help i have this hole in my block under my lower intake its located behind the area for the dizzy to go in, the hole is to marred up to be a factory hole. if someone could pleassseee help me i would like to know if my block is alright and that i do not need a new block.

this hole also goes through to the spot for the dizzy but only about half of the hole goes through if that makes any sense

that is an oil hole, like mike said. they are usually very rough.

I haven't seen one that rough, but it might just be like that.

I don't see any cracks radiating from the hole so I'd say it is supposed to be there.

Yeah that is true I just saw a ragged edge hole and thought hmm is that supposed to be there and I didn't see any pieces of metal anywhere so I must be ok

It's normal.

Some people do what is called "deburring" to the block, and smoothing that particular oil drainback hole is part of that.
Techincally, rough edged holes and casting flash can cause weak spots in the metal, so deburring can be a good idea.
It's just time consuming, so most folks don't bother.

Really you keep coming after me by bringing up old threads when i was just starting into the older pushrod motors let me throw you a 2jz motor or an 1jz or perhaps an ej257 maybe your cant wrap your little brain around motors like those

Yeah Mike, but rough cast is rough cast. That hole is on just about every motor ford built since the 60's. Just because you're used to a ricer doesn't buy you any wiggle room in a " what the hell is this hole?" thread posted in a mustang tech forum.

I mean really,.... when you do something (either dumb enough or mean enough) to break a cast iron block, and the end result is either a crack, or a big assed hole blown through the side, the ragged, raw edges newly exposed are obvious to just about anybody.
Now I never spent one minute dicking w/ an alphanumeric engine from the land of the rising sun, but how different does rough cast , or a hole full of flash like the one you have pictured, look on a J.A.P block?

I mean this is my first v motor and all the other motors have been distributorless which was my main concern to begin with as far as the hole passing through to the distributor yeah i knew it was dumb question but i was concerned is all

And a "V" motor????? Cast iron is cast iron regardless.
