i thought autoX ing was safer

I see this is making the rounds of the 'net very quickly.

Mental note: If some old guy driving his Corvette fooks it up at the finish line, do not hand him the keys to your $100K GT3 and let him try again.

i was there that weekend but i was on the other side of the road racing track. didnt even know somthing like that happend. new info too the driver of the gt3 when it got crunched was the fastest of the weekend in his c4 vette and that lap was better then the gt3 owner could do the vette owner (crasher) just couldnt stop the car at the end i guess

I heard that he had problems finding the brake pedal. I've got a video of someone else running the course earlier in the day, and I cannot figure out how someone could make it around the last corner onto the finishing straight with enough speed to have any trouble stopping ... even in a GT3.

have trouble finding the brake pedal? does he know how to heel/toe? don't porsche's have a great pedal spacing? maybe he's too used to the vette's pedal layout.

Most likely that he's a left foot braker. Lots of autocross guys do that, but I don't know why his left foot would have left the brake pedal?

I have a Factory Five cobra and the pedals are very close together. I've caught the gas pedal with the side of my foot before when trying to hit the brakes hard and it took off like a rocket. I've since fixed that issue and I can't see a production car having such tight pedal spacing that it would be a similar issue, so the left foot braking is the only thing I can think that he did...

What a mess...

left foot braking is an amazine skill when done right. i am still not smooth enough to do it on track i could do it auto crossin though . im practicing when driving my auto to slow with my left foot then put it back to the dead pedal.

Not that it looks like it in that issue pictured, but shoes make a BIG difference. Even in my mustang my work boots mean I have to hit the brake pedal dead on to not clip the gat ot clutch pedals. Needles to say I do not drive to lunch very often!! my MG was REALLY badm I could touch all 3 pedals with my old boots in that thing!!:jaw:

Read your policy, insurance is always void at a track event.
I have. Most insurance policies exclude coverage when the event is sanctioned (e.g. by SCCA) or is timed (e.g. drag racing, autocross). Open track/HPDE is generally covered. Once.

At my first driver training, the instructor suggested I try left foot braking. The first time I tried it, I nearly planted my face on the steering wheel . My left foot is calibrated for the clutch, not the brake. I'm sure I could learn, but at this point I don't think it would make me significantly faster. Now, if I autocrossed, I'd probably suck it up and do what it takes to learn how to left foot brake properly.

Using the heel toe method. Heel on the brake and toe on the clutch.
? left foot heel toe hmmm?
yesterday i was able to drive an 2008 audi TT 3.2 with dsg i mean s-tronic. fun car preety quick i was slowly catching the rs4 and the cararra gt did not catch me and he started 4 and i started last in the session passed every one esle all audis and porsche's and even laped a car not very fast with the windows down only got it to go 122 which was about 8/10 maybe 9/10 of the car. i think with my new mods to the green bmw i could keep up with my self in the tt

That just seems odd to me, I'd rather kick the clutch with my left foot and heel the brake while blipping the throttle with my right. The braking increases steadily and teh gas pedal doesn't have as much resistance to it as teh clutch does. I dunno, left foot heel/toe seems hella weird to me. camel toe though, now that's something!
