Where can I buy a factory navigation system?

I missed the chance to select it with my order... now I want it.

Don't really want an aftermarket deck... rather the Ford factory setup.

PS- A Shaker 500 will work with the factory nav, right?

My problem with an aftermarket nav system is that it suddenly becomes a target for c*cksucker thieves.

Stock less likely to get stolen.

How much would Ford charge to program?

I agree. I tried to install the factory nav, and it was more of a hassel then it was worth. I ended up selling it.

Why not just buy a Garmin or something? That way you don't have to spend any time installing it, it's cheaper, and you can hide it so thieves can't see it when you're not in your car.

So did you finally get your car?

I used my factory nav last night for the first time, it works extrememely well.

And I second the thought about it being stolen. In a convertible you can't have anything nice in your dash or car (or at least anything that isn't Ford), especially if you ever want to leave the top down while parked.

The Pioneer mounts indash and would be just as difficult to steal as the factory system. The Pioneer costs less. A portable Garmin can be carried in your pocket, briefcase or, if you are a woman, purse. The portable also costs only a couple hundred bucks, works while you are waking down the street, can be moved from vehicle to vehicle and is easily updated. The factory unit is not easily updated.
The factory unit, in my opinion, costs about twice what it should and does not include options other units do. The Pioneer, for example, lets you hook up an ipod and has all ipod controls built in. It will also control a satellite radio, back-up cameras, etc.

Have you ever used one of those things? Personally I think they are a bunch of over priced crapola. Thats just my opinion tho.

I have an AVIC-Z1... Hands down best nav system on the market.... They currently have the AVIC-Z2 out right now....

In a comparision between the stock nav and aftermarket... there is no comparision... If you are going to spend the $..... get aftermarket...

wow.. the Factory nav will cost you around $700, hopefully it works; the AVIC-d3 will cost you around $700, with many more features..

As far as theft, well, it's not the easiest thing in the world to pul the radio out of these cars.. if they do want to steal it, they will still it.

I think part of the appeal of the factory unit is it's UNdesireability.

A thief, looking in the window, can tell right away if it's a Ford factory piece or an aftermarket system (at least I can, and I'm no expert).

I would hazard that he would much rather have an aftermarket system, and look for one of those instead.

Again, as a convertible owner, I would never put anything non stock (or completely removable) in...

I attempted to get the dealer to sell me one when I bought my car, they would not - they stated (true or not, I don't know) that one cannot be installed at the dealer.

I was REALLY tempted to try it myself when one popped up on a bulliten board at work for sale for $400 - but I searched the threads here and pm'ed a couple memebers, general response was that it would be a big hassle - exactly what I don't need!
