Yah I was basically trying to get a show of hands to see if this kit really worked on stabilizing idle, I mean apparently it does something if Ford made the darn things!
You guys with idle problems could same a lot of time chasing your tails if you would go through the Surging Idle Checklist. Over 50 different people contributed information to it. The first two posts have all the fixes, and steps through the how to find and fix you idle problems without spending a lot of time and money. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions. You can post questions to that sticky and have your name and idle problem recognized. The guys with original problems and fixes get their posts added to the main fix. :
Another way of saying what Jricker is trying to is that there is underlying reasons why your having idle problems.. and the spacer is like a quick fix.. but doesn't actually fix what is wrong..... technically...
Go through the checklist that jrichker has compiled. One quick, free thing you could try is to flip the IAC upside down. I did it, and it helped quite a bit. I also have the IAC adjustment plate installed, and it doesn't seem to do anything.
If the IAC is aftermarket (I believe "Wells" brand), it needs to be flipped upside down, as mentioned, for it to work correctly.
I *DID* get the Ford IAC plate and it seemed to work (at least make a very noticeable difference) on my GT. My LX also has it from a recall. The reason Ford made them - as I understand it - is that they had problems with the IAC's getting junk in them and having to be cleaned by the Techs. It was more cost efficient for Ford (with the vehicle under warrenty) to just design and produce the IAC plate and have the Tech's install it than to clean the IAC out.
When I called the local ford dealers, they told me they didn't make such a thing, so you may want to locate the product number and call around using the part number instead of trying to explain it. If they tell you there is no such thing, they're full of s hit.
I replaced IAC right away when I had surge; with an Autozone/Duralast/Wells unit. Installed as the old one was(rightsideup) It did not fix surge; replaced & rerouted vacuum hoses, replaced fuel pump & filter, adjusted tps, new ignition switch, new speedo cable and vss .....and still no fix. I had read about flipping the IAC but put off as a last ditch effort and after fixing all the other things, I read about it again and it was mentioned that if it was an aftermarket/Wells unit that u had to flip it for it to work...........soooo guess what?! Just make sure u reset/disconnect ur battery for 10-20 min to clear computer after u've flipped it. Keep checking those boards!
