What is the factory idle RPM for the 5.0? (specifically my 1990 LX)

I have mine set at about 1000, but it just seems like it could tone down to 750. Though, when I bump the base idle down to that the engine tends to stall a lot when I close the throttle and make a turn. I'm sure having HCI upgrades has something to do with this.

I happen to enjoy the sound of a cammed 5.0 at 750 idle.

Stock is around 750-800. most HCI intake cars tend to be happy around 1000rpm. If it is shutting off like you stated check to make sure the IAC valve is working properly

ISC Maximum Closed Throttle target is 850 RPM and 672 RPM is the minimum target.

I agree 850 - 900 should work very well.

800, no stalls, no surge at cold starts, revs drop quickly. I have the Z cam. the idle adjuster plate between the IAC solve my idle issues

I haven't looked into an adjustible or restrictor IAC plate. In fact, I didn't know what they were until I read this thread. I don't see the point in having two idle settings. This plate only decreases the effectiveness of the IAC. The true solution is to somehow reprogram the ECU to be less liberal with the IAC airflow.

Anyway, does anybody have info on how to verify the IAC is working properly?
