Hey, i got the 289 powered '83GT in my sig. It's using heads from a later model 302 but i have no idea what year or what head. Is there a casting # located in a specific place on the head that i could use to identify it with?
The heads are in great shape, ported with new valves. I'd just like to know what i have.

Thanks!

J.

not sure.. different stroke maybe? I'm really not sure. there's alot i don't know about this engine. I'm half tempted to grab a 302 block and start a build. Alas, i do not have the time or the cash. Besides the motor i have has 6k on it, forged rods & pistons, decent cam, good intake, and it screams :D. I just wish i knew where all those parts came from :bang:

You won't be able to tell for sure unless you pull the heads and look along the underside for the casting numbers. Later model heads will have thermactor bumps in the exhaust ports, but that still won't tell you which late model head you've got. If I remember correctly, the E7TE heads used on the mustang have the letter "T" stamped in the oil galley located under either valve cover (which stood for truck, as this is where they heads were pirated from), but otherwise, pulling them is your only option.
