Bought the car 8 monthes ago, decided to take apart the dash and check it all out, possibly clean some wiring up.

I have no idea what it is ... and it has a bunch of wires(gauge wires) going into it.

Its about 3inchesx2inches ... has 12 slots(about 12-18gauge wire inserts)
Its some sort of power block looking thing.

If you have any idea what the name of it is, the use ANYTHING, please let me know!

Maybe a cheap alarm. Where are the wires connected?

From what i have taken apart and traced back ... it looks like they come from a few gauges(Watertemp/oil pressure/boost/Fuel Press) I havent taken the entire dash out yet so i cant tell. It doesnt look like any sort of alarm to me... but your guess is as good as mine!

id say either its the brain of an alarm system, or if it ran to some gauges then its a central nerve system something similar to the Defi gauges, Autometer Nexus gauges or Prosport Gauges ( not sure if they ever released a box like that or not ).

I'm certain it's from the Space Shuttle, better ask NASA...
No, seriously, my vote is it is a brain for a guage cluster, it dosnt look like any alarms I've seen. (I've seen A LOT!!!)

The reason I think it's off an airplane, is the fact that it isn't on one....

What do you mean when you say the " brain " of the Gauge Cluster? What exactly does it do? Whats the point of it?

Have you opened it up to see if there's any info printed on the PCB inside?

Have you tried just unplugging it and seeing what doesn't work?

There is no power going to anything right now... the majority of the interior has been taken out. The box seems sealed, but i still might take a gander at pop it open, like you were saying

If you have some fancy digital- possibly multi guage integrated into single guage setup, that brain would do the analog to digital conversion required to allow the guage to function. If said guage no longer exists in the vehicle, returning the wiring to a stock state would probably be the prudent course of action...

I currently have ...

Fuel Pressure
Wideband 02
Oil Pressure
Boost
Water Temp

Gauges setup in the car ... there is nothing fancy about them, just regular Autometer Ultralite gauges.

I dont know, im stumped at this point.

possibly to datalog from a series of gauges or inputs. the gauges you have now, did you install them or were they installed by a previous owner? im thinking someone just left the box in there due to lazyness. like it was already stated, remove it and all wiring that goes with it and be done with it lol.

Does your mustang have a stock dash harness or a painless harness?

It had the stock wiring harness. When I get everything put back together, thats my plan. Start unplugging stuff and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help guys, I appreciate it

Judging by the size of the wires, it controls something that requires some load. It looks like it could be an aftermarket keyless entry module.
