idle problem

hi i have a stock 87 mustang gt and it idles a little high. also when i shift into gear and press the clutch the engine revs a little bit too

i have know idea what it is can anybody help?

the revving when shifting makes me think IAC is gummed up...

yeah i sounds about right and thats going to be the first thing ill check but also someone checked out my car and said air is being sucked in through the back of the intake manifold

Through the smog ports in the heads or the actual intake manifold?

That could be your pcv valve. They pop out or wear out on occasion.

I'd run your check engine codes. This could be many things.

Of course if vac lines are missing or open, at would be an issue as well

See the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems.

The quick and easy way to dump the codes is in there too, and all you need to do it is a paper clip! The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes] for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.
