My friend runs 14psi on a 347 stroker making 642rwhp and its totally unstreetable. Just spins everywhere with anything but slicks, eats up a tank of gas like its nothing.
LOL, i love questions like this. It depends on how "HARDCORE!" you are, and what DD actually means to you. If DD means you'll drive your car in 98+ degree weather as well as in -20 degree weather with snow on the ground, then YES there is such a thing as too much power, because you're either going to have a lot of drama driving a 1000hp car in the snow (holy cow...lol) or youre going to spend a fortune trying to cool a 1000hp engine durring rush hour traffic jams in 100 degree weather. Also, it depends on how FAR your DD actually is. There was an article about a car that Rick Anderson built, with an all motor 400+hp 347, that clocked in with an 8200RPM redline. The engine was totally a race motor, not meant to have more than 10k or so miles put on it before it's rebuilt, but they joked about him using it as a daily driver since he only lives 1 mile from his work. So really, YOU would be a better answer for this question than any of us..lol
405rwhp here with a stock cam, stock ported heads, and 10psi @ 6000rpms from an SC-Trim. Runs, starts, and drives no different than when it was stock.. until I give her full throttle of course. My setup is reliable as stock if you ask me and gets pretty good gas mileage to top it off.
Too much horsepower for a street car? Has anyone ever heard of PART-THROTTLE??.. A high compression motor might be hard to tame, but a low compression motor with 30psi of boost and I bet it will be VERY easy to drive at part throttle through snow, rain or what have you.
Hot Rod did an article awile ago about turbo charging a 555ci chevy motor and getting close to 2,000 hp on a street car. If you want more than that... post a vid
