I was just looking into getting an ignition and i was wondering why MSD was so popular. Have they been around the longest? Best customer service? Do they have a certain feature that is superior to other companies?

I was looking at their power numbers and it seems like Holley and Mallory have ignitions of equal price that have "bigger numbers" . Though i dont know what they all mean and if there is a noticeable difference...i was just wondering.

Anyone have the CranCams Fireball Hi-6 ignition? They offer a free coil with the purchase of one.

Do all aftermarket ignitions have rev-limiters that take the spark and not fuel? This is essential for my nitrous set up.

THANKS GUYS

I have the Mallory Hyfire VI ignition on my car, and it works great. If you go to mallory's website you'll find a comparison chart b/w mallory and msd, and you will see that mallory exceeds msd in nearly all categories.

The reason I went with the mallory was because I had been hearing a lot about msd boxes failing, or not lasting, and the mallory has digital display which looks nice too!!

so without buying all those extra harneses, it can use its one stage timing retard to sense when the nitrous is being used and it then retards the timing? I love how it has the window switch also. Thats great!

**EDIT***

I just read on MSD's website that the one stage timing retard is activated by a 12-volt source (nitrous kit switch) and it can be retarded up to 10*. That sounds good to me...im just hopeing this carries over to the mallory system.
