i've been trying to get the money to fix my body problems but now my car doesnt want to run right...it just doesnt want to pull anymore(it really feels sick and puney)it just feels kindy airy if that makes any since it may be pinging but i'm not sure...and on top of that saturday i noticed some white smoke coming from under the hood and when i looked it looks like i have oil leaking from the passenger side valve covers its real mucky under there so i cant really tell where its coming from i change the oil pretty regularly (every couple thousand miles or sooner) i'm afraid that my motor is going bad but i have NO money and its my only form of transportation i need some advice from the wise about this i really dont know wat to do. and i dont know where to start about a motor swap i had plans to do one to a 351w stroker but that was WAY in the future like when i got out of college and could afford something like that...help please

Start with the easy stuff - the leaking oil could have fouled a plug perhaps.

See if the oil is leaking from your valve cover gasket (likely) and swap that sucker out. You may need to pressure wash the oiled up area so that you can get a bead on exactly where it's leaking from, a leak that high up shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

Running on 7 cylinders sucks. :)

Best of luck,
Wes

WHAT!? Don't use a pressure washer on your engine bay. You are asking for some serious problems if you do that. Your distributor cap will get wet then the damn thing wont start. Plus if the car is hot, pressuring cold water on it could freaking crack the block.

i've never heard of any body pressure washing a running engine. that just seems not smart to me at all. it's okay to pressure wash a cold engine, if your careful and don't spray the hell out of the wires and such. be VERY careful around the distributor.

Get some purple power or Simple Green and use that to de-grease it, rinse off with water.

Edit: It'd be a good idea to cover your alternator, distributor and air filter with a plastic bag whemn you're dealing with water / chemicals in the enginebay

:nice: Yep, brush it down and then lightly spritz.

thanks guys i will probably do this this weekend maybe friday(thats the only day i dont work till after dark)

if it is the valve cover gasket what name brand would you use to replace it....is there anyreason to replace the valve covers while i'm doin this(or anything else for that matter)

thanks again for helping out

alright, i believe the oil is coming from the valve cover gasket i tightened it just a little and it doesnt seem to be leaking anymore....

i'm goin to run a compression test and check the motor can someone post a walk through with pics for doing and explain exactly wat i'm lookin for(i know i need all the pistons to be close to the same compression bout how far apart can the numbers be and is there a certain number i should hope for

for the power problem i cleaned the mass air flow with a q-tip and alcohol and with the cooler weather it runs better,it still has bad days but i'm afraid my trans may have something to do with that....

and for the body problem i have found a really high mileage 96 v6 that i can get for under a grand.

i was wondering if all the chasis and body parts are the same(like the actaully bumer not the cover)and the fender doesnt line up right on MY stang and i believe my stang's chasis may be a little warped would it be easy to use the other car as a parts car to fix this.

hey guys

does anyone know if there is anything different between my body and the 96 v6 i'm goin to talk to the guy right now i should pick it up right now and i will have the car by this weekend please chime in this is kida urgent if i dont jump in on this somone else will

my front driver side fender is wat got hit does anyone know wat would need to be replaced to make it like new
i had a shop pull the frame but the shop wasnt good and still doesnt line up i talked to the guy about buying the other car but the way he is talking i think its stolen can anyone help me out here
do i need to try and get a parts car or should i take it to the ford dealership and buy all the pieces brand new

94-95 V6. GT and Cobra share a lot of the same wiring. The 96 V6 would need more parts swapped. But since you have a complete donor (your GT), you can pick up any 94-98 body and swap parts over.

Check out Craigslist.org, they have a lot of listings. You may find a GT or V6 with no engine or tranny. Good luck!

I been washing motors and engine bays at car washes all my life and it hasen't hurt a darn thing at all :)

You obviously don't wanna point the high pressure wand at electronic doo dads, sensors and the like.

I've never done it to a running motor however

The inside of the dizzy cap can get condensation in it ;)

It's no biggie at all :nono:

I usually take a couple of paper towels with me in case that happens.

Just wipe it out nice and dry and it will fire right up :nice:

ok i bought i fender a while back and its been painted and put on...it was a brand new fender from ford(my dad got it for me as a gift)the problem is it wont fit like it should i think part of the chasis is warped itself when i had the body kit put on the guy said he fixed it but its still not lined up(if yall want i'll post pics) i was just wondering how to fix it

i dont want to to switch my motor to another car i would rather just fix mine has anyone done any frame work

my plan is to go to the dealership and see if they can see anything that can be replaced to make everything line up
