I'm Clueless / Muffler Install

Can anyone direct me to a site that explains muffler installs and includes pictures? I am a novice, so I don't know what certain part names are, etc. I thought you just unscrewed the old one, and screwed the new one in, but apparently that is not the case. For instance, the original muffler seems to have brackets holding it up to the car, and the new one doesn't have brackets on it. Is that what "hangers" are for? I don't even know what hangers are, but I have seen them references a lot while researching to try to figure this out. Thanks in advance.

Are you replacing the whole exhaust or just the mufflers? Replacing just the mufflers can be a pain sometimes because everything rusts itself together, and you usually end up just cutting the muffler off anyway, which ususally leaves the exhaust too short. But if your muffler is just clamped on, you may get it apart by wiggling, pulling and cussing. Your stock muffler does have a hanger bolted to it, but most universal aftermarket mufflers don't. Instead they rely on universal hangers (available at most any parts store) that mount near the rear of the car and are held on with a muffler clamp. Nothing wrong with that at all. If you are replacing the whole system, look on ebay, I bought an entire 2 1/4" mandrel bent system, including mufflers and clamps for around $200 and it fit perfectly and sounds great.
