Im debating between 2 different tires, please help!

I need new tires and I have been looking at the fuzion ZRI's and the BFG g-force sports. The size I am after is 255x40x17 (stock wheels). The fuzions are available in town at a local firestone, which i happen to have a lifetime alignment to (so I could have my tires rotated and balanced along with an alignment every 6,000 miles for free!) The BFG's I would have to order off tirerack and have them installed with no free 6,000mi rotate and balance.

The problem is the fuzions are a more logical choice for me, but I think the BFG's are going to hook up better. I have a friend that has the fuzions on his Z28 and says they are about average. The price between the two are about the same....

What should I do?! I really dont want to spend over $600..

My friend has some fuzions on his VW Jetta GLI; I've tackled some pretty hard twisties in that car and the tires seemed to be pretty soft in the side wall department. If you're just using these for daily driving, no track use, no spirited driving, no nothing (lol) the fuzions should be alright. I'm not sure about the BFG's though...

I have the BFG's on my stang, and have no complaints. I haven't had a chance to take them out to the track yet though, but for normal city driving/little bit of abuse when I feel like it, they do just fine!!

BFG, although the more rain we have here the more I'm finding out they ain't "all that" for wet traction. But hey, it's a RWD V8. I've heard the same as BennyDaBall was waying about the Fusions...not a lot of sidewall support. Of the 2, definately BFG.

I have fuzions and they work fine for me. Spirited driving and the occasional race.
If they are about the same price, get BFG. They are better.

Give a look to the BFG G-Force kdw or kdws (kdws is a all season tire) they handle great in the rain and great traction when drive, my mom has a set of the kdws on the back of her car and loves them

i would go cheap. as loong as the fuzions dont howl once they wear that is. as far as performance goes, those bfgs arent any better at the dragstrip. I have a buddy that pulls mid 1.8s on them.

If you're not gonna be streeting them, go with Mickey Thompsons! I just got a pair an they are sick! (next trip to the track is tuesday, I expect low-mid-12's with my new 3.3" pulley and DR's!! ) MT ET Street Radials FTW @ 275/40/17 on stock size 17x8 wheels!

I'd go with the BFG's

I friend at work who drives a 96 Cobra swears by his Fuzion tires and they look okay, but we put the BFG G-Force Sport's on my son's 99 GT and they are sweet (great look, great traction and little if any road noise). I intended to put them on my 96 GT last month, but when I went to order them from Discount Tire Direct (who, by the way, will do the lifetime rotation/rebalance deal for you) all of their warehouses were out of stock. So, I went with stock (245/45/17) Kumho ASX's instead and absolutely love them.

Cant tell you about the fuzions, but the BFG KDW's I have are pretty decent. The sidewalls on them are extremely stiff compared to my last set of tires. The handle great, and there is less roll in the corners, and are quiet. However, they dont grip as good launching compared to my old ones. Driving in rain is also ok, provided you dont hit puddles. I'm thinking I should have just went with the KD's.

NEW question: should i get 255x40rx17's or 255x45rx17's? They are going on the stock 8" wheels....

Kindof a tossup. The O.E. Gatorback diameter is 25.7". When looking at the 255/40R17 and 255/45R17 g-Force Sports you've got 25.1" and 26.1". The 45-series is a little closer to the correct diameter and you also have the added bonus of the 45 having a load rating of 98 vs. 94 on the 40-series. This will give you a firmer sidewall/better handling. It looks like the higher profile might be the winner. It all depends on if you want to look at a slightly taller sidewall (won't be much but worth mentioning).
