Hi everyone, I am new to the mustangs and I just recently purchased a 98 cobra with 83000 mi. I just had a basic tune up done with plugs, O2 sensors etc. I have a problem with my IMRC, according to the dealer techs one is bad and needs to be replaced. they are trying to charge me over $800 in labor and parts! any advice on my dillema? maybe changing out to a new high performance intake manifold, or maybe getting rid of my imrc motor , put aluminum welds and tune?

First off, welcome to the board.

I would suggest you use our handy "search" feature (enter keyword "IMRC" for the "SVT Tech" section). The "SVT Tech" section contains most of the juicy technical related threads. You'll come across quite a few older, but helpful threads related to IMRC troubleshooting with our search feature.

You'll also be able to see what other users did to fix common problems and learn cures and fixes (ie - IMRC cleaning, delete, etc) regarding the IMRCs found on 96-98 snakes.

BTW - what specific "trouble codes" did the dealership pull from your car's computer? Post them up if you can and I'm sure someone will chime in with more details about how to solve the problem.

Another option you have is to go ahead and do an "IMRC delete" (along with getting a tune, to compensate for the IMRC loss) to alleviate your faulty IMRC motor problem.

G'luck!
