Is anyone running a PC computer in their car? I'm thinking about put one in my car. Fownd a car kit and it's small enough to fit under the pass seat and would have a 7" touch screen.

Found an FM modulator to play MP3's through the car radio and I could play movies too. It would be great for a tweeker some time down the road also.

What do you guys think?

As long as you want that. I like the touch screen t.v's but I have always thought they were a little too bulky for my mustang.

i plan on doing this also! only issue i havn't really grasped is the power--i've seen quite a few different ways of powering it up, but havn't decided what route i'll go.

got a link/pic to that car kit you got? to the monitor you're using? is it vga? xenarc? lilliput?

Back when i was gonna get a tweecer i planned on doing this. I was gonna use a power inverter hooked to a switch that connected to the battery.....didnt want to hook it to the ignition to avoid shutting the computer down when the car gets turned off.

Its a great idea...and would be pretty damn cool.

But now i got the pms so really no point of doing it...unless i want to play my songs off the hard drive or play movies. But thats not a huge priority right now...too many other things goin on. Just picked up a 03 cobra center console and i wanna get some silver accent pieces for it.

well, depends if you want to build the system yourself (which'll cost a little less) or buy one that's already built. another thing to consider is moutning--whether you want it in a case in your truck, or hidding behind/in your glovebox, etc.

check this forum out:
http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=25

that'll give you an idea of how people mount/install their set-ups.

out of the calculations i've made, expect to pay anywhere from 500 to 1500 bones... the most expensive components are the monitor because they're 1) generally vga (using a composite monitor will result in horrible picture quality) and 2) touchscreen--a lot more practical than a mouse/keyboard. the mobo is another couple hundred, then the hdd, video/sound (on-board will do), ram, and cd/dvd drives.

some of the important features are: gigabytes of mp3's, movies/media, gps, wireless internet (in many cases), games/emulators, anything you can do w/ a computer, basically---the variety of things you can do outweight the cost, imo, especially compared to spending close to $2k on a unit that can only do mp3/dvd/navigation, which is limited to the size of maybe a couple dvd's.

hope that helps.

Here is a the link to most of the setup. Cost is high but you can use it for a lot of things. Putting one together would be a snap. Will the Tweeker run on Linux?

I just ordered the software from AFM to plug my labtob into my pms unit.

Powering it up will be the same way i powered up my playstation in the car. Just tap into a power supply and put a relay in for switched power. (so it doesn't run the battery down when the car isn't running) That goes into an dc/ac converter which unfortunitaly ps2 switches it back but its inside the ps2 so i can't go direct. I also plan on running audio/video out to my head unit and monitor. So i can show whatever is on my labtop on the other two screens. (my "cough" sony "cough" head unit has an input to play AUX video on the sreen) and has AUX audio input to play what ever i send it on the car's speakers.
