Today I was driving home from college when all of the sudden, my car DIED. Just turned off. I've had an 800watt Kenwood amp in the back bridged to one 12" sub. Every now and then the battery light would give me a quick flash once or twice, then go away. I didn't get any signs the whole ride then BOOM! Shuts off as I'm braking for a stop sign.

If I were to buy a new alternator/battery, how much would it run me and how big/brand should I look at? I took out my 800watt kenwood and put in a 200alpine. Seems to sound the same even with the 600watt difference. I just hope it doesn't take a crap on me again. Very scary stuff.

ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Little Side Note I Forgot To Add:

After the stall, I went under the hood to find my power cable that runs to my amp had fell directly next to my engine and was STEAMING hot. Would this do anything?

Are you saying that your ENGINE stopped running?

Your power cable was against the motor?

Do you have a fuse in the power cable right at the battery?

yes those are all correct. My car just stalled, shut off, kaput. I do have a fuse on the power cable right next to the motor too.

ok.....but......if your reference point is the spot on the power cable that touched the motor, is the fuse between there & the battery, or between there & the firewall?
