Who sells a shim kit that is needed when swapping out bearing retainers on a T5?? I'm working on this now and want to have the shims available. If there's a variety kit out there I'd like to know where and how much if possible.
You don't need a new one, just lift the old one out and drop it into the new IBR. I did mine a couple weeks ago. Pulled the bearing and the shim out of the old IBR, cleaned 'em up, lubed them with clean ATF, and dropped them into the new IBR. Piece of cake.

I don't know if that's the best idea. My original shim wouldn't even let the input shaft turn with a LOT of force when the retainer was torqued on. I ended up sanding it down until it was basically paper thin so there was just a tiny bit of drag on the shaft. But yeah..I think you can order a shim kit from http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/
Thanks for the advice, I originally just slapped everything together but people keep telling me to measure just to be safe so as long as the trans is back out, I'm going to do that.
I came up with zero backlash with the shim in but that doesn't necessarialy mean its not too big. The shaft spins freely so I don't think any damage was done but I still want to be sure.
111,000 mile T5 and 300 some rwhp isn't a good combo as it is, more a less when the trans isn't to spec
I actually found hanlon about 10 minutes after posting this and they already quoted me for a shim pack so I'm all set.
I came up with -0.001" preload since I have a .038" shim and .039" of endplay w/o the shim. Am I ok or should I have the recommended 0.002 to 0.003" of preload?
