im going to be installing a pioneer avic n3 in my 98 cobra in the next week or so and im looking for any heads ups on this install. Ive ordered the din for the bezel the factory amp thingy the factory wireing harness im pretty experianced on istallations but never done one on a mach system befor and never installed a dvd/navigation system befor just the normal cd head units amps ect any thoughts would be great thanks henry

Heres a heads up, you might want to gut out the stock mach speakers. The amps that run the stock speakers have been equalized to the speaker because with no eq the stock machs suck sound wise. So not only will you have a *****y sound from the speakers even if you do eq it, it still doenst sound that great and with a deck like the avic n3 sounds like you have a few $ laying around so i wouldnt go cheap on anything. Also the factory midbass/woofers are driven by the two amps in the trunk. so you will have to figure out how to integrate that with your avic n3. I managed to bypass the amps and rewire the speakers directly to my head unit but you will find that it will be easier and will sound better if you do trash the entire mach setup.

As far as door speakers and the 4 in the rear, do you care about sound quality? I know of a few great brands if you do. If you just want it to play loud it will be cheaper but wont sound very good and will leave you wishing you went with a good sounding speaker.

its been a long time scence ive been in the game of car audio not sure what the top of the line speakers are anymore the last system i had was about 7 years ago, im not looking for the boom i want a nice clear crisp sound and something that im going to be able to hear over the long tubes and h-pipe so let me have it thanks henry and would i need amps to go with thanks henry

top of the line stuff as of now is jl audio, MB Quart, Diamond audio, boston, alpine. Those are some great brands. Audition at your favorite car audio retailer. Almost any higher end speaker is going to play more than loud enough and still be crystal clear. Would you be adding a subwoofer as well?

The factory system (mach 460) did not come with subwoofers. It consists of 4 tweeter/midrange and 4 midbass/woofers. 2 of them are up front in the speaker pods, and the other two are in the back in the plastic enclosure. There are 4 mid bass/woofers. 2 are up front in the door and the other 2 are in the back in the plastic enclosure. I would highly recommend if you would like to get a full range sound (20hz to 20khz) to at least add one sub woofer 10" or larger to give you the best possible sound. One good quality 10 or one 12" will be plenty if you dont care about booming out your neighbors. Most component speakers are good to about 40hz anything less than that they will start to distort or not even be heard. I would stick with one brand throughout the entire system, how much is your price range?

I wouldn't include the MBQ's or the Alpine models in that category. Add in DLS, Genesis, SCanSpeak Revelators and some of Aura's offerings for true high-end.
