I really need to drive it now, but I read on a tutorial to wait 24 hours...It has been about 4-5 hours, is the RTV still not cured?

If everything is installed and checked, go drive it. No reason at all to wait. I did a cam swap one day and I was driving it around the night I finished.

IF the rtv where the lower intake meets the block seems dry, drive it. It will be a bummer though if its not dry and it starts to leak oil.

Drive it!!!! I deal with rtv a hundred times a day being a helicopter mech. If you've been waiting 4-5 hours. Its going to do its job by now.

4-5 hours at the most and it will seal anything. I ususally wait four hours before I install gear lube in rear ends etc. If it isn't cured in 4-5 hours, Its crap RTV.

I think I have always waited between 4-6 hours before driving.

i guess my advice is going against everyone else, every time I use RTV, I wait 24 hours from when it was applied to drive it, because i would rather be safe than sorry, because I have had a lower intake oil leak before from poor seal, and it wasnt fun having to redo the whole job.

Nothing wrong with being prudent as well as following directions... If I had to RTV the lower, I would wait as well. I should have mentioned that I used it for the upper intake, which is much easier to remove.

Why not at least let it sit overnight?
You gonna take a chance on having to redo all that work for not waiting 12 hrs or so?

Remember, the INSIDE part where the RTV does not cure/dry as fast as the outer part.

Vib and I can tell you from exp that heating that thing up without ample time to dry is just asking for trouble.

Hmmmm....... I got really lucky then. I was driving the car around an hour after finishing my intake swap. No problems for me though.

It's not for sure that there will be problems...H3ll, some people even say you dont need RTV..Im just saying for me it's not worth it to chance it after all that labor.

RTV takes 15 minutes to dry. Wait a couple hours and hit the road. No worries.
