Installed PBR calipers, didn't notice much of a difference, why not?

I turned like new rotors, cleaned up the pads with some sandpaper (used brakes), bled the brakes a lot, sprayed the rotors with brake cleaner before driving with them on

Took it out on the road did a couple small stops, then one from 50-0mph, and i really had to stand on the pedal to stop, couldn't lock them up (i'm assuming because of ABS) but it didn't feel like the ABS was vibrating the pedal like it usually did....And i have a good firm pedal feel....

If they were done right, and you did a true brake test, Im sure you would be able to measure a difference. I thought Mine werent that much better at first, but I think I just expected WAY too much.

Mine feel more noticeable with high speed braking...not stop and go traffic light driving.

It's not really the *strength* that is going to change, it's resistance to fade that I'd be looking for an improvement in. And that's only going to be noticable when slowing down from higher speeds.

I guess I was expecting too much, I read a post about PBRs and everyone was saying it was like a night and day difference....

I was just wondering, since this was my first brake job I did completely on my own.....I thought I thought I might have not bled them enough or something, but everything seems 100% ok, oh and just for the record, all you need is ONE brake line from the RIGHT side on a '99+ Mustang equipped with PBR calipers....

I went from stock to a cobra 13" setup up front plus new pads/rotors out back, and it made no difference in the slow-speed stopping. (just way smoother) BUT, stops at 100+ mph is HUGE now.. way faster, no fade, much better braking, and I believe when my suspension is corrected (torque arm) the brakes will be that much better again...

Usually with new brakes you have to bed the pads in before they truly perform. If you bedded the pads in properly then if you let the brakes cool you will have a noticeable difference. If you really want better stopping power you will need a higher performance brake pad, something that can take the heat and apply a higher torque to the rotor.

If you stood on the brakes and it just gradually stopped you probably glazed the pads. When i first started a few years back it happened a few times on customers cars. When this happens, take the pads off, they will be really shiny and smooth. Sand them down with sandpaper until they are not smooth anymore, spray them off with brake cleaner, and you can even sand the rotors a little and spray them off. Sometimes little metal follicles get embedded in the pads and rotors and slicken up the rotors and pads. You can try that if you'd like.

I just sanded the pads prior to installation, as they were used pads, off an '01 that I got the calipers with, and I sprayed the rotors with brak cleaner before I put the wheels back on

I may have felt a difference in mine, 'cause I installed some stainless steel lines too. I would deffinately get some new pads though. You never know what those used ones have been through.

I know, even though u have sanded and sprayed them some particles still escape. Just pop em off and look at the pads and see what they look like.
