I just got my pro 5.0 shifter today and I was excited to put it in. Now that I have it installed it feels tougher to shift. It is a shorter throw but as you pass through neutral to get to the next gear it feels tighter and not as smooth. Is there a breakin period for these or did i just tighten some bolts too tight? I really think it should be much smoother than it is. Did I screw up somewhere? Help please.

Mine was the same way. The feel gets better over time.

Check the stop bolts.

I don't think it would be the stop bolts. It's before I even get to them that it feels tight. I am worried i might have tighten the 4 main bolts that bolt the shifter to the tranny too tight and they are jamming the shifter into the tranny too hard, if that makes any sense.

The short handle that comes with it makes it seem that way. I went to a Tri-Ax handle and it's perfect for me. Longer handle give more leverage and less effort.

Thanks guys! I was a little worried there. I'll give it some time to break in.

I almost forgot about changing my handle. The original stubby POS really makes the "notchiness" stand out more. That was the best thing I did to my Pro 5.0 is adding this handle:

If you are using the handle that comes with the pro 5.0 you need to change that pronto. That handle is too straight up and down. There are many good handles out there that will fit the 5.0. I have the UPR trick stick, you can go with the Steeda handle, MGW makes a nice piece. Check them all out and go with one.

Pro 50

I agree with raykrv6a, I went with the Pro 50 with the Tri Ax handle-perfect!

Call pro 50..they'll talk you thru it. My pro50 w/short handle was crisp & fast from the start..no break in should be needed. Also,is it the correct shifter for your Stang. I know someone that installed the wrong model. hth
