I searched and found some info, but just enough to confuse me.

A friend of mine gave me a Viper alarm module that I would like to use to put keyless entry in my 88. Looking at the back of the module it shows constant +, ignition +, -, lock, unlock, horn. I am pretty sure that I could just wire it up as it shows, but from what I am reading it would be smarter to use relays. inline with lock and unlock.

For starters, what rated relays should I use, and exactly how should the be wired up?

After looking at how the stock wires run, the power goes through the right lock button, through both actuators, and through the left button, grounded out on both terminals on the left button....closing the loop.

Would I wire the module between the buttons, after the buttons, or before the buttons?

Thank you.

I would use a DEI 451M for ease. You can also just use two Bosch SPDT relays (30 ampers) if that's easier - they both do the exact same thing.

The lock wires can be accessed at the top of the driver side kick panel (remove the panel). THe primary on the wires is pink IIRC and they are of good gauge. The stangs use 5 wire locks as I recall, so wire it accordingly. Do be sure that the common and NC wires go to the right thing (each is connected to one end of the wire you cut. If you wire it backwards, it can take out an actuator.

Post specific questions and myself of the other smart folks can help.

BTW, I applaud you using external relays, even if your module has on-board relays. I do the same - it unburdens the on-boarders.

Good luck.
