Is there an easy (cheap) way of installing new seals? I have a 68 coupe with an 8" rearend. I don't want to have to buy a seal installer any other way??
put a little greese in the seal to help keep the spring in it. Pry the old ones out. ( I never though mine would come out) then find a socket about the same size as the outer edge of the seal and tap it in until it is setting flush to the machined ridge inside the rearend. Works good just make sure your spring stays in the seal
Socket is what we always did. Bought a seal puller from sears and that worked well, but we've used a punch to dent the old seal until one edge pops out and then pulled it out.
