Well if all goes well tomorrow, my Trick Flow h/c/i swap will be done. I'll be doing the fuel pump next one day this week. Does anyone have a link to a write-up on changing the pump or does anyone have any tips they could share? Thanks.

not real complicated.

just go under the car, put a jack on one side of the tank, undo both straps with the one bolt holding it, then drop it slowly so you dont spill gas.

disconnect the connecter and 2 lines, then you can pull the tank out. twist the cap so you can pull the fuel pump out, and its pretty much straight forward from there.

make sure when your putting it back in, that it goes in the little tunnel for it.

DO NOT! let it prime unless it is completely soaked in gas. if you let it prime for the first time and it runs dry briefly it KILLS the pumps. i found out the hard way. the chilton says to have at least 10 gallons in it, that is said for a reason.

hope that helps you some

i forgot you have to unbolt the filler neck and get the bolts up by the gas cap, and remove the gas door.

don't try to remove it unless there is very little fuel left cause it will find it's way everywhere. The inlet line will fight you all the way out, you will have to wrestle the tank off it a bit..and make sure you undo the filler neck retainer bolt FIRST. Very straight forward just undo the straps and wiggle it loose. DO NOT USE A PUNCH OR STEEL ANYTHING WHEN TAPPING LOOSE THE RETAINING RING ON THE PUMP..SPARKS AND FUEL DO NOT MIX. Watch the pump as it comes out and put it in the same way. I also replaced the sending unit because it was quite rusty, its 80$ but saves headaches down the road.

Ok cool, thanks a lot guys. DMAN302, where did you buy the sending unit from?

Also, about how long should I plan for it to take to install?

do you have an extra set of hands?

the hardest part of it is putting the tank back up. get it on a jack, push it up and make sure all lines are clear. if its positioned properly you can just put both straps on and its pretty simple. i would say 30 minutes up to maybe 2 hours depending on how smooth it goes.

as stated, make sure you have as little amount of fuel as possible for REMOVAL AND INSTALL. unless you like pools of gas. just MAKE SURE you have sufficient amount of gas in the tank for first prime or you might as well take the pump right back out and put in another.

i had one prime dry briefly, lasted 7 miles. then somehow when we put my same pump back in i ran out of gas and it lasted 40 miles after that.

The auto parts store on the corner ordered it, took about 1-1/2 days to arrive. IMO it's a good addition leaving one less thing to worry about going wrong in the near future and having to replace it latter.
