How hard is it to install a new speedo gear. I just bought an 88' gt and it has 373 gears so the speedo is off by 20. I was jsut curious to as what gear to buy and how hard it is to install. (where does it even go )

Here's a link to help you decide which gear to get.

Under the car the cable is held into the tranny by a little bracket with one bolt on it (10 or 11mm I think). Unbolt it, pull the speedo cable out, use a small screw driver to remove the metal retaining clip, remove gear. Installation is reverse.

If its a 5 speed you need the Red speedo gear.....I think its 21 tooth.

Not necessarily, if it's a 90-93, he'd need the white 23 tooth gear...go to the site Michael mentioned for the part number.

He said it's an 88 GT, otherwise I would have told him the right one for the 90-93 tranny....white gear, 23 tooth. (and it wouldn't be perfectly accurate because the 90-93 has an 8 tooth drive.
