insufficent EGR flow...

my car keeps throwing a code for insufficent EGR flow... so i reset it and pulled the EGR vavle off thinking maybe it was clogged but, it looked brand new, so i guess maybe its not opening.... anyone know how to fix this? i just want that stupid light to go off, and i may be loosing mileage from this too...

It could be just the sensor, you may need to replace that. I would double check with a mechanic though first.

no thats definately teh problem buttter you can take it to a mechanic if that makes oyu feal fuzzy inside... egr valves are expensive i dunno if ford sells just the sencor

If your cars a 2002 is it still under warranty? Mine did that, I took it in and the fixed it pretty quick. Just a thought.

if i wanted to take it to a mechanic, why would i ask you guys how to fix it?? no theres no waranty... so how do i test the sensor to see if thats wahts wrong with it?

and waht do you mean "if they sell just the sensor" ... the sensors and the valve are two totally diffrent parts, they arent connected in any way

and like i said, the EGR vavle is clean, a little too clean for a car with almost 40k miles on it.... so it may not be flowing... anyone know how to test this?

to check vavle operation there are a few different procedures, 1 requires a decent (auto repair tech) scanner w/ OBDII control capability. 2 method, disconnect EGR valve, apply vacuum and watch for movement of the pintle inside the valve, if the valve pintle (inside the EGR Valve, not looking at the outside) moves, re-install. no movement replace valve. If it moves: With engine running @ idle, in park/neutral, apply vacuum to valve, engine RPMs should drop, possibly die. If it dies/RPMs drop, check the vacuum lines running to valve, and to the EGR sensor (called a DPFE sensor sometimes). Still no luck, take it to reputable shop.
